Spiritual Healer Training

Lots of people believe that you need special gifts to be a Spiritual Healer.  Well, you do need to have a desire to help others, you need to be able to listen to patients' problems non-judgementally, empathy and compassion are also useful attributes in a Healer.  You don't need to be a psychic, you don't have to be a 'spiritual' or religious person, you don't need a particular set of beliefs.  Basically, if you have the desire to help your fellow beings, you can be trained as a Spiritual Healer.  If you're not sure, why not try our Foundation Course.  The Foundation Course lasts 36 hours spread over a period and covers the topic categories shown below.

The History of Healing

This is a brief look at the development of Healing through the ages to present times and some of the issues surrounding its development.

Subtle Energies (Healing Energy, Auras and Chakras)

The power of thought, healing energy, auras and chakras. This is a basic view, rather than an in-depth study, and the aim is to increase awareness and sensitivity to these energies in our daily lives.

Relaxation, Breathing, Visualisation and Meditation

Understanding the effects of these factors on physical and mental well-being. Learning and practicing a variety of relaxation/visualisation techniques on self (self-healing) and other members of the group.

The Healing Session

Learning to perform both 'contact' and 'distant' healing, preparation of the healing environment and personal preparation prior to the healing act (both private and public), interaction between healer and patient, beginning and ending the healing session, looking at various distant healing techniques and their effectiveness.

Healing Professionally

Code of Conduct, keeping records and databases, insurance policy and other legal issues, organising and maintaining a practice, general health and safety.

Listening Skills, Loss and Bereavement

Learning how to listen effectively and practising on one another. Looking at the issues, which surround loss and bereavement.

Basic Anatomy and Physiology

A very basic study of the human body, its structure and its function with specific reference to healing and subtle anatomy. A brief look at the skeleton and organs. Respiration, circulation, digestion. Stress and its relationship with the immune system, the nervous system and the endocrine system.

The aims of the Foundation Course are two-fold; it obviously lays the foundations for Probationer Healers and is a necessary part of the Healing Course.  However, it allows those interested in Healing, but unsure of themselves, to meet like-minded people, to try it, to develop their spiritual awareness, and ultimately to decide for themselves whether they want to continue to be full Healers.

Those who complete the Foundation Course satisfactorily, and wish to continue, enter the Probationer Training program.  During this time, the Probationer joins one of the Healing Groups and attends the regular healing sessions where he/she practices healing, and other skills learned in the Foundation Course, on other members of the Group; develops healing techniques under the supervision of experienced healers; and, under supervision, heals members of the public.  This part of the training lasts a minimum of one year, and the Probationer must complete 50 hours of training in this time.  During this period, the Probationer also does case studies, keeps a log-book, gets involved in discussion about experiences with other healers, and is also expected to complete a 1-day First-Aid course (unless the Probationer already has a First-aid qualification).  After satisfactorily fulfilling the requirements of the Training program, the probationer becomes a registered healer within the organisation.

Reiki Healer Training

Suffolk Healers do not run a Reiki equivalent of the Spiritual Healer Foundation Course.  However, we do have a number of Reiki Masters within the Association who teach Reiki-1 and Reiki-2 courses to a common minimum standard that is acceptable to Suffolk Healers.  A broad description of the contents of each course is given below though there is some variation between Masters.

Reiki 1

The Course takes place over two days, spaced approximately a month apart.  Students receive the Course Manual approximately two weeks in advance so that they can study the topics.  The Course itself consists of Reiki-1 attunements plus practice of Reiki Healing techniques intersperced with discussion and, as appropriate, practice of previously studied topics such as Reiki concepts, Reiki origins, self-healing, healing others, sensations and experiences of healer and recipient during a Reiki session, auras and chakras, stress management, visualisation, relaxation, meditation, advanced channeling techniques, science and Reiki, Reiki issues.

On satisfactory completion of the Course, the student will be issued with a Reiki 1 Certificate from the Master (in some cases, Courses are run by two Masters so the student will receive a Certificate from each Master).  The student will now be able to practice self-healing using Reiki and can perform Reiki on family and friends.  The student is also entitled to apply for Associate Membership of the Association if he/she is not already a member at another level (e.g. Probationer or registered Spiritual Healer).

Reiki 2

Applicants are only allowed to take a Reiki-2 Course if at least six months has passed since they took a Reiki-1 Course.  As with Reiki-1, the Reiki-2 Course also takes place over two days, spaced approximately a month apart, and students receive the Course Manual approximately two weeks in advance.  Again, as with Reiki-1, the Reiki-2 Course concentrates on the attunements and on healing practice.  This is interspersed with discussion of previously studied topics, the main ones being: The Japanese origins of Reiki, the Reiki symbols, sensing the energy of the different symbols, giving treatments using the symbols, using Kotodama (sacred sounds) in treatments, preparations for Healing, Healing professionally, basic Anatomy and Physiology, Communication Skills.

Each student is expected to complete a case-study between the first and second days of the Course.  On satisfactory completion of the Course, including complete case-study, the student will be issued with a Reiki 2 Certificate from the Master (in some cases, Courses are run by two Masters so the student will receive a Certificate from each Master).  Reiki-2 is the Practitioner level of Reiki thus the successful student can obtain insurance and practice healing on the general public.  Should the student wish to apply for registered Reiki Healer Membership of the Association, 3 case studies will be required.

Please note that it is possible to join the Association as a Probationer Spiritual Healer and undertake both Reiki-1 and Reiki-2 Courses during the Probationery period thus becoming a registered Reiki Healer before becoming a registered Spiritual Healer.
